Participant's Handbook
General Information about
training and assessment with ADITC Ltd
Firstly, you should refer to
our Participants' Handbook for a wide range of information about
training and assessment.
This section contains various
summary information about:
- Where do we train and
assess?
- Recognition of your existing
skills and training (RPL)
- Fees and refunds
- Where your welfare is
concerned
- Protection of your
privacy
You should also check out the
section on our website called National Qualifications System
Training Packages and look at How to get a National Drilling
Qualification.
WHERE DO WE TRAIN AND
ASSESS?
ADITC Ltd does not carry out
training or assessment processes in our office. We don't have a
'school'. In accord with the requirements of the drilling industry
and the national competency standards for the drilling industry,
training and assessment are carried out at site - usually in your
normal place of work. An assessor may come to assist your company
in showing that people meet the requirements of the industry's
standards.
Often it is done in
cooperation with other employees at your work (such as the senior
driller, or Drill Supervisor). Most of the training in the industry
is carried out by companies directly. This training is fully
recognised within assessment and training processes and counts
towards the award of certificates, qualifications or statements of
attainment. (See Recognition of prior learning section
below.)
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR
LEARNING (RPL)
Recognition of prior learning
(RPL) and recognition of current competence (RCC) form an important
part of the means of assessing and awarding competence against
Australian National Competency Standards for the Drilling
Industry.
RPL and RCC are particularly
important in our industry, because many people have extensive
experience but have been unable to gain a formal qualification to
recognise that experience.
Availability of
RPL
RPL is available to ADITC Ltd
clients seeking recognition of prior learning and existing skills
against the Competency Standards of the Drilling Industry. The
availability of RPL will be actively promoted to people applying to
gain qualifications under the Training Package for the Drilling
Industry.
It is ADITC Ltd's policy to
recognise the AQF awards and Statements of Attainment issued by any
other Registered Training Organisation.
If you believe that you
already have the knowledge/skill specified for a particular course
or against a particular standard, and would like to receive formal
recognition, you may apply to move directly to the assessment
stage. You will need to provide proof that you have the knowledge
and skill, to support your claim for competence. This might be
records of previous training and assessment (such as a Senior First
Aid Certificate, or Screens Course), or work records which show
competence against certain aspects (such as bore logs or records of
toolbox meetings) .
Who can
assess?
RPL Assessments will be
conducted by ADITC personnel or designated consultants holding
qualifications specific to the conduct of assessment and RPL, who
have understanding of the Competency Standards for the Drilling
Industry. Assessors will meet the requirements of AQTF guidelines
as stated in the currently valid Drilling Industry Training
Package.
Appeals
All clients will be treated
equitably during the process of RPL, and clients' information will
be held in confidence and treated respectfully. Where an applicant
wishes to appeal the outcome of an assessment of RPL, an appeals
process will apply. Appeals may be referred to a panel of
independent industry experts.
You can ring us for more
information about getting recognition of your skills.
