Australian
Drilling Industry Training Committee Ltd (ADITC) was formed by
industry in 1978, came to its current form in 1982 and has been in
continuous operation.
This
industry body has national responsibility for the direction of
industry training and qualifications for the Drilling Industry in
Australia. It delivers advisory and lobbying services, and
also provides research and training/assessment services on- and
off-shore.
As part of
its provision of support to the drilling industry, ADITC is also a
Registered Training Organisation, National Provider Number 2200,
providing training and assessment services to the drilling industry
across all sectors and for all qualifications, within and outside
Australia. ADITC Ltd is registered against the National
Drilling Industry Training Package DRT03 and against the National
Drilling Industry Training Package DRT98.
The Board
and Full Committee consist of approximately 20 representatives at
Managing Director/President level of companies from each sector of
drilling, and President/ Chairman of relevant stakeholder bodies
eg: International Association of Drilling Contractors –
Australasian Chapter; AWU; Australian Drilling Industry
Association; Australasian Society for Trenchless Technology;
Australasian Contaminated Lands Consultants’ Association; Piling
and Foundation Specialists Federation; National Groundwater
Committee of ARMCANZ.
The
industry has eleven sectors, all represented within the Board and
Full Committee – seismic, geotechnical, environmental,
mineral exploration, mineral production (including
raiseboring), waterwell, oil, gas and geothermal drilling onshore
and offshore, foundation/ construction drilling, horizontal
directional drilling / trenchless technology and blast hole
drilling. Coal seam methane drilling is a developing
branch of mineral production drilling.
ADITC is
located in Sydney, NSW and has a branch office in Coolgardie,
WA.
Selected
current and completed tasks of ADITC Ltd:
- Negotiation and management
of industry development of agreed national competency standards and
qualifications structure for the Australian and New Zealand
Drilling Industries (which did not have formal qualifications
available) DRT98 (1998)
- Review and
redevelopment of the above as DRT03 (2003)
- Negotiation of agreement
on common qualifications and common competency standards for
Australia and New Zealand with the Australian and New Zealand
Governments and relevant bodies (1998 and 2003). This is the
first common qualifications structure across the two
nations.
- Formal
recognition as the recognized body for advice on vocational
education and training for the Drilling Industry to the
Commonwealth Department of Education and Training until
amalgamation of roles of such bodies in January 2004

and ongoing management of examinations for all classes of national
Driller’s licensing for waterwell drilling
